While, recently, many people – including Donald Trump’s own campaign team – thought Trump was taking the wrong tack by going way off topic at rallies, swaying to music for nearly 40 minutes on stage, and traveling to states in the final days that weren’t battleground states, Trump – as he has so many times in the past – proved each and every one of his critics wrong and demonstrated that there was a method to his madness.

And so, once again, Donald J. Trump will be president of the United States.

Both Trump supporters and Trump haters had their stomachs in knots on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 5 – since the presidential race was neck and neck and the polls had it as way too close to call – however, by about 10 p.m. that night it was becoming more crystal clear by the moment that Trump would become the 47th president of the United States.

By the time the early morning hours of  Wednesday, Nov. 6 rolled around, the immense magnitude of Trump’s victory had become apparent: Not only did Trump win, he won big – very big. He swept every one of the battleground states and got a massive showing of support from nearly every demographic – especially Latino voters.

Trump even won the popular vote, unlike in his previous two runs.

When all the votes were counted, the electoral-win map of the US looked like a big red blob with a few specs of blue sprinkled around the edges. The reason the popular vote and the size of the victory is important is that it means not only that Trump will be the next president come January, but that he will be a candidate who has been given a clear mandate by a majority of Americans to carry out the promises he made during his campaign – such as implementing sweeping tariffs to help fix the economy, pulling US support from Ukraine in its war with Russia, taking tough action to fix the border problem while tracking down those who are in the country illegally and arresting them and deporting them.

Many of these things are things a president can do using simply executive orders, and, with a pickup of more seats by Republicans in US Senate, Trump will have a lot of support in Congress for just about anything he wants to do.

By winning the presidency, Trump even gets a “Get Out Of Jail Free” card since he can’t be prosecuted for, for instance, the charges that he stole classified top secret US documents, kept them in unsecure locations around Mar-a-ago and showed them to friends and reporters.

So, all in all, November 5 was an extremely good night for Trump as well as for those Americans who want to see real, swift and radical change in the way this country conducts its business.

Trump, who often seemed exhausted during the final days of the campaign, had an understandable new burst of energy and vibrancy when he gave his victory speech even though it was hours past the bedtime of most 78-year-olds.

“This is great!” Trump told the elated crowd of supporters who were shouting “USA! USA! “These are our friends. We have thousands of friends in this incredible movement. This is a movement like nobody’s ever seen before. And, frankly, this was, I believe, the greatest political movement of all time. There’s never been anything like this in this country, and maybe beyond.”

He said this election brought with it “a new level of importance” because his administration is going to help the country heal from all the pain and divisiveness that has dominated the political scene over the last decade.

“We’re going to help our country heal,” the former and future president said. “We have a country that needs help and it needs help very badly. We’re going to fix our borders; we’re going to fix everything about our country – and we made history for a reason tonight, and the reason is going to be just that.”

The next president then pointed out that nobody thought this rise from the ashes was possible.

After the January 6 riots in 2021, even those who are now once again Trump’s closest political allies were his harshest critics who argued that he would never be president again.

Once again, Trump has proven everyone wrong.

Trump said in his early morning victory speech: “Look what happened; is this crazy? But it’s a political victory that our country has never seen before — nothing like this.”

The president-elect thanked the American people for the “extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president,” and he pledged to fight hard over the next for years for each and every American.

“Every single day, I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body,” he promised.  “I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve. This will truly be the Golden Age of America.”
