On Monday, Oct. 21, at about 6 a.m., District 2 deputies with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call regarding an ‘unknown problem, man down.’
When they arrived at 4925 Harvest Road in McLeansville – which is the site of the Greensboro Islamic Cemetery – they found the body of a young dead male who had been killed by “multiple gunshot wounds.”
The Sheriff’s Office released very little information regarding the incident; however, on Tuesday, Oct. 22, the Office provided a new critical piece of information: Despite the location of the shooting, it apparently was unrelated to the Islamic religion – namely, it was not thought to be a hate-crime against members of the Islamic religion.
The Sheriff’s Office follow-up Tuesday press release also stated that, despite the fact that the shooter is on the loose, there didn’t appear to be an ongoing threat to the public.
One day after announcing the shooting, the Sheriff’s Department sent out the following press release that contained some new information: “Detectives with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Investigative Unit have officially identified the victim of the homicide as a juvenile. Therefore, no additional information pertaining to his identity will be shared. The next of kin have been notified.”
It added that the address is associated with the Greensboro Islamic Cemetery; however, so far, “the evidence indicates that the homicide did not occur inside of the cemetery itself. “
“At this time, the incident appears to be isolated and is not being investigated as a hate crime,” the release stated.
The press release the previous day didn’t note that the site of the call came from the area of the cemetery, nor did it announce that it seemed to be an isolated incident or that members of the public were likely not in danger due to this particular perpetrator.
Just tell it like it is:
Our Sheriff is too busy puffing cigars and attending worthless events/conferences to have time to discuss this with anyone. So we must hear whatever skewed version of events he has rubber stamped for staff over the phone. He did likely find time to turn away several qualified applicants this week while demanding that others get a second, third or fourth look. He makes an occasional appearance in a silly outfit and outrageous hat just in time to take credit for all the hard work the employees have put in. He likely barked at one or two of them for having some mud on their shoe or a scuff on their hat. Just a typical day at the GCSO.
You sound like someone who has information from the inside.
Hey, all those stripes on the sleeves mean… something?
I have never understood why we have “hate crimes.” A crime is a crime, is a crime. All crimes are hateful in one way or another. The designation “hate crime” should be removed from all judicial codes. The designation of “hate crime” is provoking because the word conjures up a preconceived impression of the crime and the arrested person, when in fact only a jury can decide if the crime was a “hate crime,” which then can be used as a sentencing enhancement.
It would be at a Pet Cemetery, but we can’t say that about any Cemetery other than white.
