Guilford County in the last decade has gone from a wallflower to the belle of the ball when it comes to economic development, and now it seems as though every company in the world wants to relocate or open up a new business in the county.
That’s exactly what many area residents have been hoping for for about half a century – but now everything seems to be coming together when it comes to attracting new economic development and more jobs to the area.
That trend continued this week.
One driving force for that economic growth has been Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTIA), and the newest business coming to the county looks as if it’s headed to the airport as well. The unnamed company is projecting an investment of just under $56 million in a new facility that would mean the creation of 280 jobs.
The mystery company is also requesting state and other local incentives before making a location decision. The approval of incentives doesn’t commit the company to locate in North Carolina.
The leadership of company’s seeking incentives always maintain that they’re considering elsewhere, however, when they are at a point of establishing a public hearing before the county commissioners, that almost always means the decision to locate in Guilford County has already been made. Once the hearing is scheduled the Board of Commissioners always approves the incentives package and the company always comes to the county.
State law requires that a public hearing be held before economic incentives grants can be approved by local governments.
Economic development officials have not spilled the name of company – which currently goes under the code name “Project Sage.”
On Wednesday, June 28, Guilford County announced that the Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room on the Second Floor of the Old Guilford County Court House at 301 W. Market Street in Greensboro.
The official stated purpose of the hearing will be “to receive public input on the proposed allocation of funds for the following Economic Development Incentive Grant to: Project Sage, in the amount of $712,820.”
The notice adds that the company is considering locating its new project at PTIA, in addition to other supposed options within the US.
Favoring one company over all others, with taxpayer money. A bribe.
I’ve been in NC long enough to remember all the hype about “The Global Transpark”. It was going to be this incredible hub of aviation and logistics, as our “leaders” finally realised how strategic our state’s location was.
I was excited, because Greensboro – the “Gate City” – was the obvious site for this massive new Public Sector project.
We were at the very center of the state, enjoyed the best Interstate connections in the state, had an underutilized new airport with room for expansion, and our Triad region was poised for huge growth.
So our “leaders” chose to drop billions of taxpayer Dollars…. on Kinston.
Where…?? Where….???
There is a colorful old Southern term for a place like Kinston. It can be abbreviated as B. F. Egypt.
Needless to say, all those taxpayer Dollars have disappeared without trace, as has “The Global Transpark”. Nobody has even mentioned it for decades.
——-
It really could have helped Greensboro, but the idiotic government put it in the middle of nowhere. And lost billions.
That’s how the Parasitic Sector works.

CITY WON’T EVEN TELL US THE NAME OF THE COMPANY.

Once again taxpayers are Blackmailed while political officials say they are “Bringing Jobs To PTIA”. I say “NO”.
