The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office arrested an alleged killer over a month and a half ago; however, until Saturday, April 26, the identity of the victim remained a mystery.

This weekend, the Sheriff’s Office reported that its Major Crimes Investigative Unit had identified the victim of the homicide in Jamestown.

The victim was a 33-year-old Honduran man named Jose Margarito Alvarez-Espinal.

The murder occurred on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

At just after 10:40 p.m. Guilford County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call at 6000 Devoncourt Place in Jamestown after being alerted of a stabbing incident.

When they arrived on the scene, sheriff’s deputies discovered a bleeding man with life-threatening injuries, and, at that time, they immediately began giving first aid in an attempt to save the victim’s life.

Soon after, however, Guilford County Emergency Services arrived on the scene and EMS responders pronounced the man dead.

While the victim was a John Doe at that point, Yoni Isaias Cifuentes Perez, 39, was arrested soon after the stabbing and charged with First Degree Murder.

Perez, pictured above, is currently being held without bond in the Guilford County Detention Center in High Point.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, this is an active and ongoing investigation and no further details will be made public at this time.

Anyone who has information regarding this investigation is being asked to contact Detective A. Miller at 336-641-5966 or call Guilford County Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.
