High Point is not becoming the next Hollywood, but it is getting some credibility as a place where film and television productions can thrive.
Last month, High Point announced that Brittano Group-KNova Film Capital is considering a major project in the southwest section of downtown, and the High Point City Council subsequently voted to approve financial incentives for the company. Brittano already has film and television studios in the city, and there’s nothing city leaders would like to see more than for the new project to establish much more space for television and film sets, video editing labs, and other film related services.
High Point Economic Development Corp. President Loren Hill said this week that he’s very pleased the Brittano is considering the large project in High Point.
Hill stressed that the company stated it would make the decision on whether the project is coming to High Point within a month of the public hearing, which means an official announcement should come soon.
“So nothing is official,” a cautious Hill said on Monday, August 3.
Despite that caution, city leaders expect the company to ink the final deal very soon and that will only add to a strong base of creative film and video companies in the area.
High Point is already home to Gefen Company, Inc., which offers pre-production, production and post-production services for video, and the city is home to Alderman Company, which provides services for video marketing projects and handles all stages of the process from concept through design and production.
Other companies in the video and film business include Fresh Brewed Films, an independent film company that started up in 2000, and Elements Studio, which operates a 22,000 square-foot facility with three large production stages. The city also has a host of other related businesses – such as One Love Productions, Inc., which specializes in wedding videos.
High Point has been host to some scenes in a number of relatively popular horror movie productions including Hellraiser 3. Since the city has a large number of empty large buildings and vacant spaces from the departure of furniture operations, High Point offers some atmospheric settings for shooting movie scenes

The NC Piedmont Triad Film Commission, which works to get outside film companies to use local settings, shows off area empty buildings and other settings to film companies when they are interested in shooting in central North Carolina.
While High Point may not displace Hollywood or Bollywood as a movie mega-site, the addition of Brittano project would be a big step in helping the city expand a solid base of film and video production capabilities.

As an actress living locally. This is great news!
The City of High Point is good at handing out the taxpayer’s (and future taxpayer’s) cash if you can furnish them with a warm and fuzzy soundbite. Such as “large project in High Point”. I know how they operate, first-hand.
High Point is actually becoming “little Chicago”. Who is voting for this?
Froop rhymes with Coop, whatever that means.
It was an interesting article the first time I read it. I lost track of how many times it repeated itself.
Repetition can be an oxymoron, but only if you are one. It can also be used for emphasis, but only if you don’t know any more adjectives, or have nothing to add.
