The city of Greensboro is making history this week as the first city in the state of North Carolina to be named a “Family Forward Community” – and the celebration of that honor will take place on Friday evening, April 25, at LeBauer Park in downtown Greensboro.
Hosted by Action Greensboro and the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, the event, which will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., will highlight Greensboro’s growing commitment to family-friendly workplaces – that is, ones that support a good work-life balance and help attract top talent to the area.
A goal of being a Family Forward community is attracting top workforce talent and retaining it in order to strengthen the local work force.
Former Rhino Times Editor John Hammer once wrote that the real selling point of Greensboro is that it’s “a great place to raise a family,” and, apparently, a lot of people agree with that assessment.
The Family Forward North Carolina initiative, which awards the designation, encourages businesses in competing cities to adopt policies that make it easier for employees to thrive both on and off the job.
And Greensboro’s recognition reflects the success of that approach locally, with companies like Kontoor Brands recently earning Family Forward NC certification for their employee-focused policies.
There will be plenty of fun to be had at the celebration: Music will be provided by DJ Dez, and there will be face painting, giveaways, a raffle, food, drinks, ice cream – and even a chance for kids to check out a real fire truck.
The event is meant for the enjoyment of people of all ages, and it promises to be a festive way to mark the city of Greensboro’s milestone.
