Time flies if you’re having fun and also if you are a political candidate because it’s already time to file to run if you are seeking an elected office in some municipalities in Guilford County this year.
Members of the Greensboro City Council are elected to four year terms and the Greensboro City Council election won’t be held until 2025.
Starting at high noon on Friday, July 7, 2023, the Guilford County Board of Elections Office will open the filing period for candidates wishing to run for several municipal offices across Guilford County.
The deadline to file is noon on Friday, July 21.
Guilford County Elections Director Charlie Collicutt said in a press release announcing the filing period that the door shuts completely at noon on that day.
“We want to ensure anyone wishing to run for office in one of our municipalities has all the information they need, right at their fingertips,” he said, “The most important thing for candidates to know right now is that they must file by the deadline at noon on July 21 or they will not be qualified to appear on the ballot.”
The Guilford County Board of Elections Office has two locations: The Old Guilford County Court House at 301 W. Market St in Greensboro and 325 E. Russell Ave. in High Point.
Both are facing big parking problems right now due to parking lot and facility repairs and renovations, so candidates are “encouraged to plan ample time to arrive during business hours and especially ahead of the noon deadline on July 21.”
Candidates who want to run for municipal office in the following Guilford County cities and towns should act soon:
High Point
Jamestown
Pleasant Garden
Burlington
Oak Ridge
Sedalia
Whitsett
Gibsonville
Summerfield
Stokesdale
Kernersville
Sedgefield Sanitary District
Along with Greensboro in 2023 there are no elections in the Town of Archdale.
According to the press release, “Notices of candidacy and filing fees must be filed in the Guilford County Board of Elections Office or notarized and received (not postmarked) in the office by noon on Friday, July 21, 2023.”
Those considering running for municipal office can find more information, including filing fees, at www.guilfordelections.org and www.ncsbe.gov/candidates, or may call 336-641-3836.

The plan is working as it was intentionally thought out.
