Some of you just chopped down a tree so you could decorate it and make your home festive for the holidays. So, if you feel bad about that, or, even if you don’t, you might think about planting some trees, which is a good thing to do even if you don’t get a Christmas tree for your holiday celebrations.
Each year, about this time, the Guilford County Soil and Water Conservation District Board sells tree seedlings at great prices to encourage the practice of planting trees. During the annual Tree Seedling Sale, the soil and water group also offers deals on trees and other plants, flowers and related items.
This time around, the sale begins on Monday, Jan. 27 and runs through Friday, Jan. 31. Each of those days it will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will take place at the Agricultural Center Barn at 3309 Burlington Road in Greensboro.
They’ll have seedlings for white pines, redbud, persimmon, dogwood, and red maple trees. Also, they’re selling mixed seed packs and bluebird boxes.
Pre-orders – a good idea if you want something specific since supply is limited – are being taken now.
Here’s how much seedlings will set you back in 2025:
White Pines – $10.00 (bundle of 20)
Eastern Redbud- $2.00 each
Persimmon – $2.00 each
Dogwood – $2.00 each
Red Maple – $2.00 each
Here are some other offerings that are part of the sale:
Blue Bird Boxes – $25.00
Southeastern Seed Mix Packet- $7.00 (This covers about 400 square feet)
Bird/Butterfly Seed Mix – $7.00 (Also covers 400 square feet)
Pre-orders must be prepaid to guarantee the order. In Guilford County, the tree seedling business is conducted on a first come first serve basis.
Also, only cash and checks are taken as payment – so you can leave your Bitcoin in your Bitcoin wallet.
Checks should be made payable to “Friends of Guilford SWCD” and mailed with your orders to the Ag Center address listed above no later than Tuesday, Jan. 18.
Keep in mind that orders not picked up by January 31 will be resold and you will not get a refund.
Trees may be available the week of the sale for those who haven’t preordered, but availability may be limited.
Call 336-641-2440 for more information or if you want them to send you an order form.
The reason they only accept cash or checks is because all debit/credit card purchases result in the big banks skimming off about FIVE PER CENT ff the top in fees & charges.
As a small business owner I know.
And it’s pure extortion.
Just offer your customers the opinion of a discount for cash payment. I’ve done this for years. Both sides win. The banks and taxman can all suck eggs
Good info Scott but will have to pass. Trees make leaves and City Council doesn’t like leaves.
Lol good point but the pine tree offer is still on the table. In twenty years you could sell pine needles to your neighbors to cover up their leaves
This would be great except for the people who work during the day. It would be nice to have this sale on Saturday also…
