The City of Greensboro’s Communications and Marketing Department does what it can to get the word out about city programs, events, program benefits and news – but one problem in getting the word out about such things is that there are quite a few county residents who don’t speak English or don’t speak it well.
That’s why the city has just added its first Spanish-language podcast – “Talk City Greensboro En Español” – to its list of informational programs.
The podcast is being launched in advance of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 through October 15.
The new podcast, which will be entirely in Spanish, will be hosted by City of Greensboro Senior Community Relations Specialist Isabel Gil.
The topics discussed will also often be ones of the most interest to the Hispanic community in the area.
In the podcast, Gil will interview fellow City of Greensboro employees as well as guests from the community to explore the topics of interest as well as to provide updates on key City of Greensboro projects.
The show’s initial guest is NC Folk Festival board member José Sandoval.
Talk City Greensboro En Español is available for viewing on the city’s YouTube channel and can be heard on Apple Podcasts, Pandora and SoundCloud.
If you would like to apply to be a guest on the podcast, you should contact Isabel Gil at Isabel.Gil@greensboro-nc.gov.
Funded by English speaking taxpayers
MAKE AMERICA ENGLISH AGAIN!!!! So sick of everything being in Spanish anymore! No other country does this. Your first choice is Spanish, 2nd is English. That’s a huge problem! It’s time to bring English back as the only choice. What people speak in their home is their choice but they come here, they need to learn to speak English.
And Spanish speaking tax payers. That includes sales taxes, property taxes and income taxes. Over 80% of Hispanic ics in NC are fully papered legal immigrants or natural born citizens.
Chris, do you have any idea the number of remittances (money) that leaves our economy annually and goes to Mexico? Why is that important? Because it is a permanent transfer of money that will never return to our country but will continue to circulate in Mexico. These remittances are made by Mexicans living in the US. More than $63 billion was sent to Mexico in 2023, a 7% increase from 2022. The remittance to Mexico is expected to reach over $65 billion in 2024. To put this in perspective, in 2023 $44.9 billion was earmarked to go to Ukraine. In 2023, $18 billion more was sent to Mexico (by Mexicans living in US) than to Ukraine (by the US government.) How much cash is paid to Mexican workers? There is no US taxes paid on this money (cash); no money paid into SS. And property taxes? You jest. Why? Because there are millions and millions of illegal Mexicans living among us. They are not buying property. Does Mexico care? No, because Mexico is receiving “foreign aid” remittances daily and because the illegals leaving Mexico is not a brain drain. However, the largest number of remittances are going to India and China. Kamala Harris operates by the seat-of-her-pants and makes decision on-the-fly. KH does not share her policies and vision for our Republic because she has no policies and vision, and because she makes decisions randomly. That’s scary and no way an authentic leader works.
Oh boy, can hardly wait!
“No other country does this?” Really? All countries have more than one language spoken.
Por que no?
