You probably just threw away the last tree you bought, but each year at this time the Guilford County’s Soil and Water Conservation District Board sells trees that are meant to be kept for a very long time.
This month, the board will be holding its annual Tree Seedling Sale, where it offers deals on tiny trees and many other plants, flowers and related items.
The sale starts on Monday, Jan. 23 and runs through Friday, Jan. 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day – however, some items always go fast so those interested are strongly encouraged to preorder whatever they want.
The event will take place at the Guilford County Agricultural Center Barn at 3309 Burlington Road in Greensboro, where preorders will be picked up as well.
The prices are excellent and all proceeds will be used to fund educational programming in Guilford County.
To preorder items, mail in a completed form and payment to: Guilford SWCD. Located at 3309 Burlington Road in Greensboro. Those seeking more information can call 336-641-2440.
Orders may be made on the day of the sale. However, seedling supplies are limited and may be sold out.
Here are some of the offerings in the 2023 sale:
- White Pines – bundles of 20 for $7.
- Atlantic White Cedar – $2 each
- Eastern Red Cedar – $2 each
- Also selling for $2 each are Black Walnut, Sugarberry, Crape Myrtle and White Oak seedlings.
The Soil and Water Commission is also selling packets of wildflowers for $7 as well as bluebird boxes for $20 and wood duck boxes for $40.
There are other items for sale as well.
Those who pre-order need to pre-pay to guarantee their order – and the only accepted forms of payment are checks and cold hard cash.
Checks should be made payable to “Guilford County SWCD” and mailed with an order form to the address above no later than Tuesday, Jan.18.
Any orders not picked up by Friday, Feb. 3, will be resold without a refund.
Scott, Is there a web link which has the order form and listing of available items? Thanks
I would like to know this as well. A link would be helpful for pre-orders.
Don’t buy trees as city council gets upset because trees make leaves.
