City Needs Gun Sniffing Dogs
Dear Editor
Gun sniffing dogs in Greensboro?
Since our mayor, our city manager and our chief of police refuse to effectively enforce all laws in Greensboro, perhaps we need 50 gun sniffing dogs on the police force to address our record number of aggravated assaults and murders. Of course, if you had and didn’t use this weapon, much like the city doesn’t use traffic law enforcement or license checks to get illegal guns and criminals off the streets, the madness will continue.

Jim, good article but understand that is the Democrats plan in our current society. Destroy everything.
They just don’t care. Greensboro and Guilford County are the new New York of the south. Hadn’t seen a road check around here in years.
In a free country, agents of the state do not have the right to apprehend citizens for no reason, as they peacefully go about their business.
Yes, Austin you could say that, but our Greensboro Police Dept. have every right to pull over criminals for improper equipment, over tinted windshields and license plates, illegal mufflers and running lights and traffic law violations. Our Chief of Police and his Officers have a sworn duty to enforce the law, but their superiors Mayor Nancy Vaughan and City Manager Taiwo Jaiyeoba are telling them to do otherwise? In my opinion these officials should be impeached as they have blood on their hands for their failure to make our city and roadways safe. Believe me I have several friends that have been severely injured and one crippled on our city streets because of the idiots we have leading our City! And I am not even addressing the Gun Violence that has our City leading the state in all categories.
I agree with you, Jim. In instances of law breaking the police do have the right to apprehend the perpetrator, but they do not have the right to peremptorily and arbitrarily apprehend anyone and everyone, without cause.
It’s reminiscent of the German soldiers in occupied Europe who had the right to stop anyone and demand to “see your papers”.
We are slowly becoming that kind of society, and police roadblocks are an example of this.
Jim, I found out over 3 years ago that our Police Chief and head Sheriff told their officers not to pull or charge any black people at all unless it was no choice. This was told buy multiple city officers and County deputies. I had a fit and called both offices to ask about it and was laughed at and hung up on.
Apparently they were given these orders roughly 3 1/2 or more years ago and are still in effect. I have no doubt you can find officers in both departments that will privately disclose this if you ask. They will not go public with that information though because it will mean their job.
I was driving down MLK and saw a car in front of me with tags that had been expired since 2019. A city police officer was beside of me. This was the city limits btw. I tooted my horn and when he looked at me I pointed at the tags of the car in front of me. He looked at the car, saw the tags, then looked back at me and shrugged his shoulders and kept going. He did not pull that car or attempt to pull that car. He did not get on his radio. I know this because I was watching the whole time. The driver of the car was African American.
I think it’s a shame that our officers are told not to pull certain people. Not only were they told not to pull black people, they were also told not to pull anyone who comes from certain areas of town. The rich, influential side that is. They were also told they are not to pull or charge any council members. City or County. If they are called driving drunk or high, they are to be followed or taken home and nothing else said. Think back to a few years ago when a certain black city councilwoman was pulled by an officer for I believe, drunk driving, and got away with it. It was in this paper as well as the Greensboro newspaper. We all know what I’m talking about. She had that officer fired and her charges were dropped.
Any officer reading this, I really hope you step up and tell the truth. I know for a fact that these individual officers did not lie. I know this because it was random officers that I met in public and asked about it to see if it was true. A couple of the deputies I asked, I happened to meet at an event and I asked them about it. They confirmed this. So then I started asking random officers on both sides of the law. It was confirmed by each one but they all did say that if they were put in front of anyone legally, they would deny it. That they were all told they would lose their job.
It’s a shame that law and order does not apply to everyone equally in Guilford County or the city of Greensboro. It’s a shame that our Police Chief and head Sheriff can be bought that way. It’s a horrible thought that our law enforcement is corrupt that way. Because that’s what it comes down to. Corruption. Now I know why so many officers quit when Rogers became sheriff. And why he fired so many. Because they refused to follow his commands, knowing they were illegal. We had some good officers and I’m sure we still do. I just hope they come forward and stand up to the establishment and it’s illegal / immoral commands.
Foremost, we as a city of size should have a operational Police Dept to accommodate the insanity. Guns, Speeders, etc. One in particular which just blew my mind, IS: Dept stores, Apple Stores, Home Goods stores have a policy of not stopping shoplifters. I understand the insurance a business usually must have for this sort of thing as well. The issue is now known by “Regular Law Abiding Citizens, and Criminals”. Ultimately the business’ will pass along that cost to the product they provide. Literally allowing the criminal to ‘Put Them Out Of Business’. How has this become the norm? Hey what we see happening on the west coast ends up traveling across the nation. It has been a proven statistical fact. Another factoid is how Apathy allowed the Nazi’s to exist and those before them. This is the BEFORE we are now living in. After many of us will not be here. Move away, Die which will you chose?
