One Solution To Fentanyl Flood
Dear Editor,
Someone is sending a message to the world, or at least to the scumbags who have developed the habit of breaking the law with impunity.
This headline says it all: “Support building for Republican resolution to authorize military force against Mexican drug cartels, eviscerate those behind the fentanyl crisis.”
Congressman Mike Waltz and Dan Crenshaw, both Republicans, have introduced a resolution calling to “authorize the use of United States Armed Forces against those responsible for trafficking fentanyl or a fentanyl-related substance into the United States or carrying out other related activities that cause regional destabilization in the Western Hemisphere.”
In military terms it says, “kick a**, take names and leave bodies,” which the military is very good at. And there are some units that let the other side set the rules, although officially they’ll deny it.
I realize there is no way this thing will go any further but from what I read it’s gathering support. One can only hope.
This action is what is needed to bring under control something that’s killing millions of Americans, the majority of them our children. Note I’m not saying stop it because that is next to impossible, but the numbers can be brought way down and we can almost end the drug problem in America. Note I used the word “almost” because ending the drug problem in this country is next to impossible unless we change from a democracy to a dictatorship. Am I advocating the invasion of Mexico? No way. It would require an invitation from the Mexican government. But given the level of corruption in that government it may require some way to allow US forces to operate basically independent of the Mexican government.
A side benefit could be a drop in the level of illegals crossing into our country. I don’t know how many but given the current numbers anything would be a help.
Given who and what this would involve, it could cause some potentially ugly, very ugly, danger to U.S. military personnel’s families, given who we are talking about here. We know they have no qualms about going after the families of anyone who opposes them. That’s why if this were to happen, we play by their rules like in the Godfather, “You bring a club, we bring a knife…”
Is that extreme? Yes, but look at the other option – that being the current status quo.
Carpe diem,
Alan Marshall
Lesser Of Two Evils Is Still Evil
Dear Editor,
“Our” federal government has serious problems. There are liars and hypocrites in both the Democratic and Republican parties. Members of both parties have problems when it comes to classified information. Neither party wants to decrease the size and power of government, or eliminate the government debt. The two parties are against term limits and the overthrow of all dictatorships.
I have the solution to our problems. We need to get rid of the “two party system.” We can start by mandating that all races, in all elections, allow write-in voting, and a “none of the above line.” The two party system forces people to choose between “the lessor of two evils.” Keep in mind that the lessor of two evils is still evil. Suppose you went to vote for president, and your only choices were Hitler and Stalin. Who would you vote for?
Chuck Mann
The US military has an awful track record against an enemy that doesn’t wear a standard uniform. Your idea is foolish bravado
There are too many Chris’ that write here to be sure who I’m talking to so I/m going to have to hold back what I want to say, but rest assured while I cannot speak for all military personnel I can say on behalf of my self as having been there and done that…bite me, communist.
Truth hurts I see given your lack of any counter argument yet again. Paint me shocked /s
“Never argue with stupid people. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.” M.Twain
“Don’t argue with a fool. Onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.” My grandmother
Please almighty Chris give us some examples
Afghanistan is best example.
I was sure you would have said Vietnam but as anyone with a small bit of intelligence our military is always hamstrung by politicians and not allowed to fight the same way the opposition does If they were it really would be no contest. America has too many bleeding heart liberal’s to allow our service members to do their jobs efficiently. We hamstring them as we do our Police officers.
Alan you are 100% correct we are one of a few countries that does not use its military to control the airports, border or drug enforcement. It’s time to get serious. Fire a few shots over the Mexican border things would change
I agree with Chuck!
I am a Libertarian, and the obstacles that this Party faces are essentially insurmountable.
The two big parties have created a coercive duopoly – to the detriment of true democracy.
It’s corrupt.
I’m in agreement with Chuck and Austin. Finally, my write-in vote would mean something. I’m tired of voting for evil.
You make a very good point austin, Look back at this country after it was made free. Look how many parties were available with different opinions and ideas on how things should go.
This is a classic example of why it would be best, but also validates things I have said about the two party system being the equivalent of marrying your first cousin.
Please keep this in mind, and if you are not aware of this, start doing some research. The move for a union of Mexico, US and Canada. The implications of which you might not recognize when it comes to this issue.
No, Alan, our military isn’t the one that should be fighting drug wars, giving humanitarian aid, or rebuilding, their only job should be in war against our enemies. They are specially trained for the type of enemy they face and it’s not the same as fighting drug cartels.
The drug problem should be dealt with by new immigration and drug laws passed by Congress and then adhered to by law enforcement and our courts, border walls. A drug/immigration security force should be formed that can work across borders with intelligence and combat training to fight cartels in other countries. Their families should be given the security needed to protect them from the dangers involved, they should be aware of the choice they are making when recruited, and they should be given the benefits needed to be well cared for so they’re not tempted to go to the other side.
Our country needs to have better drug rehab that lasts long enough to actually help people who are addicted because three months isn’t enough, it’s a joke catch-and-release program that’s a revolving door of endless failure. We need to end the programs that give “safe” injection sites to addicts or in any way makes them think it’s ok to do illegal drugs, including the legalization of marijuana which is a gateway drug (doesn’t matter what you think, it is), free homes, free needles. They need to be made responsible for their addiction. We should start using all political and financial pressure on China, Mexico, and other countries that grow, make, traffic, and sell these drugs to the US and other countries (and be aware that this will have far-reaching effects financially for tons of people because it’s really, really big money for important people.
We need to understand that people make their own choices, and people choose to use drugs. They chose to continue despite warnings, overdoses, bad trips, near death. We cannot stop addicts, they must choose to stop themselves. Mental health counseling only works if a person chooses to go themselves, chooses to get better, chooses to go in a more positive direction. Drug deaths are a reflection of our country’s horrific decline. It’s our country we need to fix. We need better spiritual values, better moral values, better personal values, to teach our kids to make better choices, to have personal responsibility, to have respect for themselves and others, to have respect for our country, to care about life and their future, to want to be successful, to want to be better and have better, to believe that having wealth and success is a good thing, that helping others is a positive value, that feeling good because of internal success and intrinsic value is possible.
I respectfully disagree Deborah, but only up to a point.
Your idea of a special drug security force has much merit but to get something like that up to speed would take time… a lot of time. Immigration already exists but is being badly misused. What my proposal is calls for is not a long term solution, but as the situation currently exists you are asking law enforcement to engage paramilitary organizations many of which are trained and lead by ex-military personnel armed with 1st line military weapons. How many law enforcement personnel are trained and experienced with crew served weapons and small unit tactics? A special drug security force would take time to organize, train, and get deployed. My suggestion is, in my opinion, a very viable option to cover until such a force can be deployed.
The rest of your points are very valid, and I pretty much agree with your statements
You can eliminate the two-party system by fielding more candidates that can get enough votes to gain seats in the Congress. This is a fact in such countries as Israel or France; but it leads to chaos in the governing process. New PM’s every few months (see: UK). An oligarchy does not work, unless headed by an autocrat.
So, get better candidates in the two major parties. The voter is responsible. Good luck with that.
France & Israel have PR systems; the UK has a first-past-the-post system, like us.
Proportional Representation is more democratic since it more accurately reflects the electorate, but tends to be less stable than FPTP because it’s harder to achieve a majority in the legislature. And PR makes smaller parties viable.
Alan, rest assured that if I write in, especially to retort one of your commentaries, I’ll – as always – use my first and last name. I’m the only Chris Bradsher there is, as far as I can discern….
Of course Chris B., and I will apologize to you here and now for giving you the impression I was placing you within that group. Just be aware that there some out there that are not above using your name, being the cowards that they are. It was recently done by someone using my wife’s name.
Sorry I offended you.
You have to remember that his tinfoil hat slips to one side at times and his conspiracy theories run wild.
