A Letter To The Editor From Rhino Times Reader Lynn Andrew

An interesting campaign technique has taken hold in our country over the last several years.  I call it the “Do Nothing, Say Nothing” method.  Perhaps the idea started with the Penguins in the movie Madagascar with their “smile and wave boys”.  This method was used successfully by Joe Biden in 2020.  Others are utilizing the technique, which is subtle, but I write to warn Americans.  Beware of the candidate who will not engage with other candidates or with the media in any meaningful way.  If someone goes out of their way to be evasive during the sales cycle, what do you think you will get after the sale is closed?

Let me detail this technique for you.  The candidate simply shows up at public events and smiles and waves.  They nod and utter trite phrases without content.  They only accept appearances in friendly or neutral locations, never subjecting themselves to hard questions.  Above all, they will never appear in a spontaneous Q&A session where they must depend exclusively on their own speaking skills and platform.  Additionally, finding concrete written plans once they are elected is also impossible.  Notice where they do not appear.   The subtility in the technique lies not in what they do but what they don’t do.  Pay close attention, this method is permeating our election season.  There are candidates on multiple levels who are utilizing it.

These candidates are playing with your mind.  They are allowing you to color in the details of their campaign. Your mind will fill in what you would like to see come to pass after Election Day.  Don’t fall for it.  Because they are not saying anything, promising anything or doing anything with content, their after-election actions won’t coincide with what you thought they would do.  Then, they will proudly announce that they deceived no one.  Remember the campaign season is a job interview, not a popularity contest.  Who can do the job most effectively is what we seek to find.
