The City of Greensboro is kicking off a “Spring Expungement Series” on Thursday, March 20 and, for those who make it past the first stage, on Thursday, April 24.
Additional similar programs are being planned for the summer and fall of 2025.
The City’s Human Rights and Parks and Recreation departments will be hosting the first of the three scheduled Thrive GSO Expungement Education Series for Greensboro’s “justice-impacted” residents March 20 and April 24.
The programs will begin at 6 p.m. at the Lindley Community Recreation Center at 2907 Springwood Dr. in Greensboro.
According to promotional material from the city regarding the series, the March 20 event “provides information about the expungement process, a qualification screening, and access to community resources.” And, “Pending the screening’s outcome, participants may meet individually with a legal professional in the April 24 session.”
If getting your criminal history erased isn’t enough of an attraction for you, snacks will be available for participants March 20 – and dinner will be served April 24.
When a criminal record is expunged, the record is basically sealed – that is, it’s hidden from public view and doesn’t show up on background checks.
The process is meant to allow people with a criminal history to get a fresh start.
It’s not, however, a complete erasure: Expungement hides the criminal records from the public –however, law enforcement officials and some government agencies can still access them.
Those interested in participating can register online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/thrive-gso-expunction-education-sessions-tickets-1253588790819?aff=oddtdtcreator
Thrive GSO is described as “a City-sponsored program for individuals, advocates, organizations, and agencies concerned with raising awareness about and addressing the issues surrounding criminal records, including expunction, housing, employment, voting, and education.”
Thrive GSO helps its clients connect with available government and private community services.
You can visit the Thrive GSO website if you want more information about these events or related matters – or you can contact Human Rights Outreach and Education Coordinator Paula Washington at 336-373-2038.
If any illegal aliens show up will they be detained for ICE?
Why do we need another progressive program for “justice- impacted residents”? Why can’t the recreation departments stay in their own lane? Tax dollars will feed you, get you govt and other private services. Greensboro has found another way to deceive the tax paying public with another program of waste using your tax dollars.
Why can’t they use some of our ridiculously high tax dollars to pave our streets? Muirs Chapel Racetrack now has a poorly paved over hole about every 200 ft.
Maybe Trump can apply.
Maybe you can start a go fund page for the 14 year old black kid who shot and killed a 26 year old police officer, critically wounded his partner with an fully automatic weapon this weekend
I’m sure it was because of poverty, absence of 2 parents or economic situation. Maybe an IQ issue, not really sure but you can figure it out while you work on getting his record expunged
Good luck
Maybe you can learn to take a joke.
But sense you were triggered…..I have no context for the story you are sharing but the point of programs to reduce violence in the black community is to stop the violence before it happens. That kid is now forever a lost cause to the legacy of violence, gangs and violence too often found in the black community. Sad. But the conservative program of telling them to stop being poor, hateful, and violent isn’t working. Like the ‘just say no’ program failed.
So let the adults work to see if we can figure out a way to help those in the cycle of poverty, gangs and violence find hope and a way out. All we ask you just go away and stop with the fear mongering and shaming of a community, that HAS been victimized for generations, because you think they should ‘get over it’.
But you be you.
Ok Kamala we love your word salad
It’s only word salad to those that don’t know how to read.
But you be you. It’s never too late to learn to read!
Just because you did it doesn’t mean you’re guilty. What a brilliant idea.
Worked for Trump and the Jan 6th rioters.
Recidivism is high. Why would an employer not want to know if an applicant has a criminal record?
Another Liberal go-dooder scenario. Say you hired a permanent job holder for your household or small business; would you want to know?
Yep.
So I’m not allowed to know if the guy I’m hiring is a criminal, but if he commits a crime while he’s working, I’m the one who gets sued.
Where’s the justice in that?
No esta aqui.
If it’s not Welsh, English, French, or Latin I have no chance of understanding you, Miller.
What goes around, comes around. C’est la vie.

Why should I, having no criminal record, help finance services to clear records of those who do? Having supported myself for many years. paid my and childrens’ food, clothing, and e public school taxes and college tuition, not been impregnated with children whom I could not support, contributed tax $ for schools, roads, public officials. My tax dollars even pay pay for the imprisoned living/medical expenses. Why should I have to pay to have their proven criminal record expunged???
Don’t know what the qualifications are. I do know I would be leary of hiring a cashier or a bank teller if they had a criminal background.
Let me get this right… The taxpayers who have been violated with criminal offenses are paying to have the criminal’s records expunged??? Is it just me?
This move is to help Blacks. Don’t be fooled to think the Greensboro government cares about anybody except Blacks. Greensboro wants to hide the criminal background of Black criminals. This move will hurt the public and those that hire, especially in sensitive positions. We will be back here at the same spot in the future because the same criminals will commit crimes again and again and will expect another expungement. I kid you not.
But of course it’s all Whitey,s fault for keeping the black man down. Just ask Chris he will set you straight on that issue
Sure. Happy to help Rebel with a response to your white nationalist gaslighting.
First it was slavery, then it was unfair practices share cropping, then it was denial as equal citizens across the board with open racism (you know lynchings, burning down entire black communities, etc…), then it was Jim Crow laws, then it was openly unfair financial / lending practices, then it was over policing (driving or walking while black being the classics), toss in decades of unequal access to quality education and now it is White Washing of the US history of systemic racism.
And conservatives answer to the impact of generations of racism in this country. “Get over it, we are being nicer now”.
But you be you.
Chris maybe one day you will figure out that I post a lot of time just to pull your chain and get your blood pressure worked up. It’s really a hobby of mine when I’m bored. As anyone can see it works really well. Thanks for the laughs, you’re such a small minded village idiot
I greatly appreciate the opportunity to remind Rhino commenters that there was a need for DEI. While often poorly executed, the need was and is legit.
Thanks again for the opportunity. Happy to do anytime.
Want the 501c Criminal Record gone? Vote out the city & county council.
Chris the need for DEI is like having a need for hemorrhoids, both are unwanted and worthless. If people don’t like the direction of this country they are free to leave
Chris, Chris, Chris there you go again. Yes, there was slavery and if the hands of time could be turned backwards knowing what is known now, no one would have allowed slavery, no one. All Blacks here in the US and their ancestors would be back in Africa from whence they came. So, Chris, it is not too late for you to return to Africa. As far as your other grievances are concerned, none of them are in context. Not all hangings were recorded so the exact number is not known and will never be known. Of the ones recorded, 27% were White. Share cropping was a hard life for both Blacks and Whites. However, 2/3 of all sharecroppers were white, and I cannot imagine that the landowner gave special consideration to the White sharecropper. This was a tough life for all. Driving or walking while Black is totally subjective. Factual examples, please. As far as quality education, segregated schools produced some of the giants of the Civil Rights movement. Blacks did not need to sit beside Whites or any other group to do well in school. In fact, I speculate that Blacks did better in schools during segregation. Please stop the woe is me.
Thank you Term Limits everything you said is spot on correct Have a blessed day.
Initially all sharecroppers where ex slaves. Whites started to join the ranks only during the end of Reconstruction and during the great depression. So yes, in the end, 2/3 of sharecroppers were poor white families. But over 50% of ex-slaves were sharecroppers while only 5 to 10% of whites were sharecroppers. They were both so poorly treated it was the first time whites and blacks worked together to form a Union. So again, you are whitewashing history using the ‘ol “it happened to white people too’ argument while ignoring that while it happened to a few white people, it happened to the majority of black people….by design.
Saying it was tough for all while ignoring that white had many paths out of poverty that were denied blacks is classic whitewashing as well. Such as more access to capital in the banking and farm lending systems, more access to jobs that included training and advancement not offered to people of color etc.. etc.. etc..
You also use the White nationalists view that because a few individuals overcame the many barriers thrown up by systemic racism that all blacks should have overcome them. Whites used several barriers to keep people of color in poverty (even burning down the wealthiest black cities such as Tulsa OK) then crowded them into inner city projects after life was no longer tenable in the white rural communities for people of color. Of course, education was poorly funded for all of those kids yet people like you were shocked, I tell you shocked, that family structure broke down, kids turned to gangs for support and men turned to violence to survive. All while being told by people like Austin, that they reap what they sow and were lessor quality people than whites.
In terms of the modern use of racism in banking, farm lending, policing (Great article uses an example from right here in GSO – https://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/25/us/racial-disparity-traffic-stops-driving-black.html), these are well documented and if you struggle with google, I am happy to share a number or studies, stories, and articles to fill your inbox.
How many white nationalist videos / programs do you watch a day? You have their propaganda down really well.
I wasn’t planning to respond to your comments until I got to the end and read your question about the number of white nationalist videos/programs that I watch. The answer is, I have never, never watched such videos. I am not disparaging the videos because I have never seen any, so I don’t know what they are about except by your suggestion. This shows your comments are based on assumptions and your prejudice against Whites.
So Chris since the former enslaved people were now free and times were so hard on them why not return to Africa
