Information from the city about a report of domestic violence at Greensboro City Manager Tai Jaiyeoba’s house over the holidays is difficult and time consuming to obtain.
However, a transcript of the notes of several Metro 911 calls from Jaiyeoba’s house on Tuesday, Dec. 28 offers more evidence that this was a serious case of domestic violence. The transcript was not provided by the City of Greensboro.
According to the 911 notes, “Caller Statement: CALLER ADV CITY MANAGER IS KILLING HIS CHILDREN.”
Those familiar with the incident but not willing to speak on the record said that none of Jaiyeoba’s children were seriously injured.
The 911 notes then state that there was no answer on the call back and a notation that is far too common in Greensboro, “GPD 10-100 Dist.” The 10-100 code means that there is no police car currently available to answer the call.
The notes continue, “FEM ON THE LINE.. STATING THAT DAD IS ABUSING THEM…. TRYING TO SAY THAT SHE PUSHED HIM AND BROKE HIS ARM. ACTIVE DISORDER IN BACKGROUND. STATED NO 10-32 … HUNG UP AGAIN.”
The “NO 10-32” means no weapons.
According to the notes, Emergency Medical Services responded to the call and was “staging,” which according to a former law enforcement officer means that EMS was waiting for the Greensboro police to arrive to get the situation under control before entering the residence.
The notes also state:
“Questions:
- DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE
- In progress.
- Caller on scene.
- Vict caller on scene
- No access to wpns.
- Physical DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE.”
The notes end stating that the situation was “UNDER CONTROL.”
A public records request for the 911 calls on Tuesday, Dec. 28 has been made, but from the 911 notes, it appears there was a serious domestic disturbance at Jaiyeoba’s home on Dec. 28 involving the city manager and several of his children and both EMS and the Greensboro Police Department responded.
According to those familiar with the incident but unwilling to speak for attribution, Jaiyeoba suffered the most severe injury, which was a dislocated shoulder.
So far the Greensboro City Council has held no meeting to discuss the “Domestic Disturbance” involving Jaiyeoba, one of the City Council’s two employees. The other City Council employee is City Attorney Chuck Watts.
One might think that the City Council would be interested in any domestic disturbance involving the city manager that reached the point that the Greensboro police and Guilford County EMS responded. But the City Council can only take action at an official meeting and no official meeting has been held or scheduled to discuss the incident.
Still waiting for the Rhino to get hit with the race card….that’s want council likes to do when they don’t want to answer questions on any topic.
Curioser and curioser
It was a bad decision when the council hired him, knowing he was about to be fired from Charlotte. Now the council needs to move along and start over with a reputable and responsible manager
Agree 1oo%. Plus, isn’t GSO large enough that we could fill that position from within? There must be some honest, capable people on staff that could handle the job.
Fret no more Ken, Michelle Kennedy is being groomed for that very position
Damn, the City Manager lives in a $900,000 house.
Release the calls. The longer you wait the worse it will be. Democracy dies in darkness.
Well he’s being paid $6,000/ week . And our property taxes pay his salary.
I’m sorry. How is this an act of domestic violence if you clearly stated that there was no crime committed, and that an investigation has been conducted and CLOSED? At worst, it sounds like a family disagreement that went bad. But that does not mean that that family is not entitled to privacy and respect. As usual, great reporting Mr. Hammer.
Can you read?
Yes. And clearly you cannot. Mr. Hammer stated that it was “clear” domestic violence had occurred. But in a previous article he made it clear that the investigation found that NO crimes had been committed.
This is classic Hammer reporting. Stretch the facts for sensationalism. Use his own opinions to be able to justify his own personal vendettas. It’s clear. I don’t need to be able to read much further into that. But you might.
And for the record, there are many victims of domestic violence who would be extremely offended by this stretch of the facts.
Domestic violence and crime are not the same thing.
My wife slaps me around all the time…
There are types of domestic violence that occurs that are not defined as domestic by the state for the purposes of arrest. Read the statute.
He dint doo nuffin !
Thanks for bringing this to public view. Can body cam footage be requested. Tax payers have very little faith in GSO and Guilford county government to be transparent
This incident should be discussed by the City Council as soon as possible.
He should be suspended until the issue is cleared up.
For those of you who really expect his bosses (city council) to do something, I have two words…James Hinson (mic drop)
You hit the nail on the head!!!!
Streb the truth never sounded SOOO good !!!
Careful Streb, you’ll ruffle Dons feathers
SS no one cares about Hinson anymore. He’s dead.
Why would I care about what Streb said? Hinson is retired, dead, and most current officers never knew the dude. I do not wish ill upon him, but he did not leave a resounding legacy of positive change or a throng of supporters behind. You seem to be the one more eaten up with him…. Like maybe you were involved in a certain black book fiasco?
Gosh Don, I’d forgotten about the black book. Do you have a copy I could borrow. Thanks
We know it’s under your pillow next to your passie.
Innocent until proven guilty. Don’t hatchet your counts before they chicken. Perhaps the City Manager should meet with the City Council?
No ; PRESUMED innocent until proven guilty. Not necessarily actually innocent. Big difference.
Terrible diversity hire! Now everyone is in cover up mode! But not to fear, when all else fails the race card will be played!
If the case is closed, a court order to release the body camara footage should be requested. If there are underaged children on the body cam, that may prevent the release.
When will investigative reporting shift to real issue. The Manager called Chief and gave phone to officers. The officers were ordered to stand down, make no arrest, and to not enter any electronic reports. This violates several laws under NC law.
Don were you and James Hinson buddies. I know you didn’t like David Wray, who was a great officer and would still be Chief if not for Hinson and then city manager Mitch Johnson, probably another of your friends.
Yeah, I recall all the throngs of officers and public supporters calling on city council to reinstate him after he got locked out and fired….. oh wait, there weren’t any of those. Didn’t the police union do a public vote of no confidence on that guy? I remember the billboards. I don’t think they have done that before or since. Put your rose-colored glasses and running shorts back on, get your mustache grease ready, and pucker those lips.
