According to several studies, Halloween is the number one “hookup night” of the year for human beings.
That is, of all the days on the calendar, Halloween is the one where, statistically speaking, the largest percentage of people – many no doubt who’ve been drinking – engage in, well, you know what, with a random stranger or friend they’ve never done that with before.
However, while a lot of human beings get some enjoyment out of the day, it’s also the number one day of the year on which animals are the most miserable. Though there are no studies to prove it, it almost certainly must be the case because that’s the day that human beings are most likely to dress up their pets in ridiculous and uncomfortable costumes that the animals clearly disdain.
Now, Guilford County Animal Services, which is usually kind to animals, is encouraging pet owners to make their pets miserable for a day for the enjoyment of humans.
Animal Services is doing so – in partnership with the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department – by hosting “Howl-O-Ween IV,” the fourth annual Halloween celebration for families and their pets.
This year’s event will take place before actual Halloween – it will happen on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Country Park in Greensboro.
Attendees of all ages are invited to wear their favorite costumes and, also, of course, bring their dogs out for an afternoon of human fun and animal misery.
The event will feature a pet costume contest as well as treat stations lined along the park’s main trail with candy for children and special treats for costumed dogs.
In addition, food and craft vendors will be on-site.
Keep in mind that all dogs – costumed or not – must be kept on a leash at all times.
Also, the public invitation does not include cats – most likely because cats and dogs are natural enemies.
Parking will be available at 3802 Jaycee Park Dr. and 3905 Nathanael Greene Dr. in Greensboro.
