In most election years, North Carolina does not see a lot of love and attention from presidential campaigns because it is, in the modern era, considered to be a reliably Republican state when it comes to its electoral votes.  The one exception was in 2008 when Barack Obama won the state by the skin of his teeth – about 14,000 votes.

This year, however, the Republican ticket with Donald Trump and J.D. Vance is in a dead heat with Democratic Presidential Nominee Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz.  Which is the reason that the state is getting to see a whole lot of those national candidates this time around.

As part of the Republican effort, Vance is coming to Greensboro to hold a Town Hall meeting in an attempt to win over some voters to his side – as he appeared to do in an October 1 debate with Walz, which was considered by most political watchers to have been won by Vance.

Vance was much maligned by Democrats and even some Trump supporters when he was first selected as Trump’s running mate. At that time, President Joe Biden was still the Democratic candidate facing Trump.

There were memes and jokes about Vance’s passion for couches, his comments about childless cat ladies and his extremely awkward attempt to buy donuts.

However, since the debate he has become considered as an asset for, rather than a drag on, the Republican ticket, and now, those in Greensboro and the surrounding area will be able to see Vance in person on Thursday. Oct 10 at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro.

You may even get to ask the candidate a question.

Vance is scheduled to speak starting at 6 p.m. and the doors will open at 4 p.m.  Registration is required and tickets are limited to two per cell phone number.

For those who would rather watch from home, the town hall will be broadcast live on C-SPAN 2 and streamed on C-SPAN.org.
