It looks pretty certain that, after the November election, the country will likely collapse into civil war, so it might be a good idea to come out to an October celebration while everyone is getting along and in good spirits before the arrival of the time when Guilford County looks like the movie set of The Purge.

Well, you’re in luck if you want to do that because Guilford County is giving you the perfect opportunity this weekend to get outside, enjoy the beauty of fall and celebrate that beauty with others in the community.

Everyone is invited to the 20th Annual Bur-Mil Park Fall Fest which will take place at 5834 Bur-Mil Club Road in Greensboro.

While the prices of just about everything have been going up in recent years, this family-friendly event still costs only $0.  Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is when the community event will offer up a lot of wholesome old-timey fun and excitement for the entire family.

According to the Guilford County Parks Department’s promotional literature, “Whether you’re a child or an adult, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Highlights of the event include music, inflatables, hayrides, food trucks, and so much more!”

New this year, the county’s Parks Department has teamed up with 122 Events – an event planning and design company – to allow visitors “to experience a variety of creative setups inside the Bur-Mil Park Event Center.”

Also, there will be a Blake Shelton tickets trivia contest – a free trivia battle with a chance to win two tickets to see Blake Shelton perform live at the First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro. First Horizon Coliseum is really the Greensboro Coliseum, so don’t be confused by the new name that the bank got put on the building after shelling out lots of money to the City of Greensboro in order to get that facility renamed.

There will also be vendors and exhibitors. You and your friends and loved ones will be able to explore a wide range of over 50 vendors and exhibitors offering unique local products, crafts and services.

And, yes, there will be something for the kids: The Kid’s Zone will be a hub of free activities featuring inflatables, games, crafts and more.

What’s an Autumn celebration without a hayride? Not much, but the county has this angle covered. You’ll be able to take “a relaxing ride through the picturesque park, surrounded by the vibrant fall foliage.”

Local food trucks will be at the event offering a variety of options.

Guilford County Parks Event Coordinator Sydney Cunningham said a good time will be had by all.

“We’re excited to welcome both vendors and the community to experience our event center in a whole new way,” Cunningham said. “This is a great opportunity to showcase our versatile space, and we encourage everyone to come see the possibilities for hosting their special events here.”
