If you’re planning to visit downtown Greensboro from Friday, Sept. 6 to Sunday, Sept. 8, you can expect a lot of commotion, great music and street closures. That’s because many streets and parking areas in downtown will be closed for the 10th Anniversary of the North Carolina Folk Festival, which once again, this year, will bring a lot of terrific music and other attractions to the city’s center.
Just about everything you want to know about the schedule can be found at https://ncfolkfestival.com
If you’re planning on attending – or even driving near the area – that weekend, there are quite a few things to keep in mind.
For one, the Greensboro Transit Agency will offer fare-free bus service from 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, to 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8.
Once downtown, you’ll be able to use the Hopper Trolley to travel around the festival and throughout downtown Greensboro – as well as north to State Street and the Revolution Mill area.
(The trolley will detour slightly from its regular route to accommodate the festival with service beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.)
Festival goers will have some parking options.
The following vehicle and bike parking locations will be available for public use during the festival – though the cost is $10 a day to park a vehicle.
- Greene Street Deck, 211 S. Greene St.
- Bellemeade Street Deck, 200 N. Greene St.
- Eugene Street Deck, 215 S. Eugene St.
- Davie Street Deck, 109 E. Market St.
- February One Deck, 110 S. Davie St.
Another thing to be aware of is that there will be a lot of street closures during the festival.
In preparation for the festival this year, the following streets will be closed from 10 a.m. on Friday, September 6 until 6 a.m. Monday, September 9.
East-West Streets
- Lindsay St. between Summit Ave. and Murrow Blvd.
- Friendly Avenue between Elm St. and Murrow Blvd.
- Market Street between Davie St. and Murrow Blvd.
- Washington St. between Davie St. and Lyndon St.
North-South Streets
- Davie St. between Abe Brenner Pl. and Market St.
- Church St. between Summit Ave. and Washington St.
- Lyndon St. between Market St. and Washington St.
- Note: Some central downtown streets will be closed before 10 a.m. Friday.
Also, during this year’s festival, the City of Greensboro is hosting its annual 9/11 Remembrance Stair Climb. That event will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Eugene Parking Deck at 215 N. Eugene St. in downtown.
These are the events I was referring to @Rebel there are things going on all the time here, if you weren’t too afraid of leaving your house. You would know. And the event or attraction(top golf) doesn’t have to be down town for people to stay there
City this is not new. It’s over 10 years old and top golf is losing money in Charlotte so don’t hang your flag on that. You and your 45% have ruined what downtown was becoming. Remember that.
I may miss it. Remember the big lie-down of A&T students at a downtown XMAS celebration? Years ago, but I’ve never attended another City outdoor function. A few shows @Tanger, that’s it. Not even a restaurant.
All my trials, Lord, soon be over. I am leaving the County (some of you will like that).
