The City of High Point has formulated a comprehensive plan meant to help shape what the city will look like in two decades – and now it needs citizens and organization leaders who are going to help implement that plan.

High Point is now accepting applications for a task force that will be “dedicated to guiding the implementation of the city’s visionary High Point 2045 Comprehensive Plan.”

Applications for the positions on the forward-looking task force will be accepted through Friday, Sept. 6.

The High Point 2045 Comprehensive Plan, which was adopted on May 6 of this year, outlines the strategic direction for policymaking and investment over the coming two decades. The plan identifies community priorities and also establishes a framework for growth management that’s in accordance with the community’s vision of how things should progress.

According to city officials, the task force will be made up of 18 to 20 members from all walks of life.

The city’s call for applicants states that the task force members are meant to represent “a diverse coalition of public, non-profit, and private entities.”

That wide range of experiences, city officials say, will play a key role in ensuring the successful execution of High Point’s long-term Comprehensive Plan.

High Point is seeking organizational partners that will be able to align their expertise and resources with the city’s goals in the effort to guide the city’s future over the coming two decades.

The task force will work to “support and facilitate” implementation of the plan, with High Point city staff providing needed support and organizing periodic meetings of the group.

The City of High Point has already gone through a major transformation over the past several decades. After losing much of its world-famous furniture business to overseas countries, the city has been recruiting and starting new businesses, and, over the last two decades, High Point city had a great deal of success filling formerly empty buildings with new tenants who’ve brought a great deal of new jobs to the city.

High Point has also undergone a massive downtown revitalization centered largely around its new multi-use stadium that’s now home to a baseball team and soccer team.

High Point University has grown by leaps and bounds and is now one of the most intriguing, talked about, premier universities in the southeast.

As the city moves forward over the next two decades, city leaders want to see more growth and progress – but they want to see it done in a measured and rational way.

That’s something the comprehensive plan is meant to guide and the task force is being created to help see that it is done right.

Anyone interested in contributing to the future of High Point is encouraged to apply for the task force.

This city’s comprehensive plan is High Point’s “official policy for the future growth and development of the city,” and It was created after city officials took in a great deal of public input from residents, business owners, and policymakers. That input was used to attempt to reach something of a consensus on a vision for the development of the city over the next 20 years.

The plan is described as “a decision-making guide for city staff, the Planning and Zoning Commission, and the City Council on a day-to-day basis and shall direct High Point’s long-term policies,” and “It is also a guide for the entire community, including individuals, families, businesses, and non-profit organizations and each person or group should consider playing an active role to ensure accountability to this plan.”
