Piedmont Triad International Airport doesn’t have the very cheapest prices on airline tickets; however, it does have some other advantages over the states’ larger airports. For instance, it’s less crowded, the parking is more affordable and you don’t have to drive an hour and a half to get there.
Also, PTI is constantly improving its facilities and services.
The airport, which features a very successful megasite that’s been bringing a lot of new aviation businesses to the area, is making changes meant to enhance the experience of its passengers: PTI Airport’s website, www.FlyFromPTI.com, is now offering a more personalized service called FlyMyAirport that allows travelers to access customized travel options that are tailored to their individual preferences.
The platform lets users find weekly deals, plan weekend getaways and search for specific destination routes that begin from PTI Airport.
The airport is making other improvements as well.
Work crews are currently upgrading the lighting and other aspects of the central garage. The north side of level three is closed for the upgrade. While that work is being done over the next 6 months, travelers can expect periodic closures of the entire central garage.
PTI has some other things going on right now as well. It is, for instance, hosting a TSA PreCheck enrollment event next week that will run from August 12 to August 16. Appointments are being made from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
TSA PreCheck is available for US citizens, nationals and lawful permanent residents.
Applicants have to provide proof of identity, citizenship, fingerprints and a photo to enroll. The cost is $78 – and a five-year membership is granted if approved.
Most applicants can get their Known Traveler Number within three to five days. If you can’t make it to the airport’s enrollment event, you can file an application online and schedule an appointment at one of more than 560 enrollment centers across the country. If you want more information about the service, contact the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority by calling 336-665-5600.
In other airport news, on Wednesday, Aug. 7, the Airport Authority called a special meeting of the board to consider a proposed amendment to the lease of the ultra-fast jet making company Boom Supersonic.
The Authority rarely calls special meetings, so the announcement of a meeting regarding one of the airports key tenants might seem like a newsworthy event – however, Kevin Baker, the executive director of the airport, said that it was just a minor insurance issue that only warranted a special called meeting because there was a mid-August deadline for that administrative change.
If you want lower prices, and more non-stops, try RDU or CLT.
