If you’re looking for quiet and solitude, downtown Greensboro is not the place to be this weekend, as the North Carolina Folk Festival will be filling the downtown with people and music.
The NC Folk Festival kicks off its annual weekend celebration of folk music and arts on Friday, Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. with the final performances for the evening beginning at 9:30 p.m.
The NC Folk Festival is a free event, although donations are accepted.
Saturday the music starts at noon and the final performances of the day begin at 9:30 p.m.
Sunday the schedule also begins at noon but the final performances will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Most of the performances are on outdoor stages in the cultural district. The Cone Health Stage is in the parking lot on East Market Street between Davie Street and Church Street. The Van Dyke Stage is the Cultural Arts Center at 200 N. Davie St. Also in the Cultural Arts Center in Studio 305 is the Dance Local at NC Folk Fest stage. The LeBauer Park Family Area is in LeBauer Park on Davie Street with the Center City Jams Stage in Center City Park across the street.
The Lawn Stage is on Bellemeade Street at Commerce Place and the Old Courthouse Stage is in front of the Old Guilford County Courthouse on West Market Street.
The streets in the festival area will be closed to vehicular traffic.
Parking is always an issue with large crowds and the Bellemeade, Church Street, Greene Street and Eugene Street decks will all be open with a $10 a day fee. The Davie Street Parking Deck will be closed. On-street parking (if you can find it) is free during the festival. If you don’t want the hassle of parking downtown, the Greensboro Transit Agency (GTA) buses are free during the festival. Also the downtown Hopper Trolley bus, which is always free, will be in operation although the buses will be detouring from their regular route because of the streets closed for the NC Folk Festival.
The 2023 NC Folk Festival will be held rain or shine, although in the case of inclement weather some performances may be delayed.
The NC Folk Festival also requests that you leave your pets at home while attending the festival.
