The City of High Point is very fortunate: Uncle Sam, the man who best signifies the spirit of the United States of America, has chosen to spend the 2023 Fourth of July holiday in High Point. On Tuesday, July 4, the city’s Parks & Recreation Department will hold an event that features food, family fun and fireworks. The city will once again host its Fourth of July celebration – The Uncle Sam Jam – which has been a local tradition in the city going all the way back to 1973.

Gates open at Oak Hollow Festival Park at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4. Set your GPS to 1841 Eastchester Drive in High Point.

The cost is $10 per vehicle and the parks and rec staff are only taking cold hard cash for admittance – no credit cards or checks.

Event organizers point out that the fireworks show won’t be visible from Oak Hollow Marina or Sailboat Point this year. Therefore, parking fees won’t be charged at those locations.

The Uncle Sam Jam will feature live, family-friendly music by the Brandon Robertson Band at 5 p.m., which will be followed by The Terrible Twos at 6:30 p.m.

The fireworks show over Oak Hollow Lake will start at 9:15 p.m.

There will be a Family Fun Zone at the event, which will offer some free activities for kids. A $20 all-inclusive wristband will provide the children with additional access to inflatables, the rock-climbing wall and a “jousting area.”

Come hungry because there will be food vendors selling pizza, wings, burgers, hot dogs, ice cream, shaved ice, popcorn, funnel cakes, lemonade and more.

Don’t bring Fido or Fluffy along because pets aren’t welcome at the Uncle Sam Jam. Also, if you didn’t know, many animals are absolutely terrified by fireworks. Coolers, chairs and blankets are permitted. The Uncle Sam Jam is a “family event,” which is another way of saying that alcohol isn’t allowed. Everyone should be prepared for bag and cooler checks at the gate. Tents, glass containers, fishing equipment, fireworks, grills and drones are all prohibited.

Oak Hollow Lake will close to boats promptly at 5 p.m. on the Fourth. Oak Hollow Golf Course will close at 5 p.m.; all golfers must be off the course by then.

Uncle Sam Jam 2023 sponsors include Pepsi, HH Architecture, Berky Hinkley Orthodontics, HSM Solutions and the High Point Parks and Recreation Department.
