Not long ago, to get a COVID-19 vaccination appointment with Guilford County, you had to start calling a phone number at 8 a.m. and then keep redialing and hope and pray that your phone call got through over thousands of other calls from people doing the exact same thing.
On Thursday, April 1, the game changed and – one day after the county announced that it was opening up the vaccine process to all adults – the county announced that there was now a slew of spots available for which to schedule a vaccine appointment.
The official announcement was great news: “Following yesterday’s announcement that COVID-19 vaccines are now available to everyone 16 years and older in Guilford County, the Guilford County Division of Public Health is advising that registration for new Guilford County COVID-19 vaccination appointments will open, April 1, 2021 at 2:00 PM.”
In the past the county may have had 4,000 or fewer appointments available at one time. However, on Thursday, the county reported that they had 8,000 new spots to schedule. There will no doubt be more on the way.
The slots can be nabbed by going to www.healthyguilford.com on April Fool’s Day. (But this is no joke.)
Guilford County vaccination appointments will be available at the following locations:
- Mount Zion Baptist Church at 1301 Alamance Church Road in Greensboro
- High Point University Community Center at Oak Hollow Mall at 921 Eastchester Dr. in Suite 1230,
- The Greensboro Coliseum at 1921 W. Gate City Blvd.
Only those who’ve scheduled an appointment and who have received confirmation of that appointment should visit the vaccine sites. County officials announced the new slots will not be available for anyone who shows up without an appointment.
Guilford County had been experiencing a lowered demand for the vaccine in recent weeks. However, with the appointments now open to all adults, they feel there could be a new spike of county residents who want the shot. That could, once again, limit availability in the near future.
