At least in one statistic 2021 in Greensboro so far is worse than 2020.
As of Tuesday, Feb. 9, there have been seven homicides in Greensboro in 2021. In 2020, by the same date, there had been four homicides according to Greensboro Police Department Public Information Officer Ron Glenn.
When you consider that 2020 started with a triple homicide on Jan. 1, that means that from Jan. 2 to Feb. 9 2020 there was only one homicide. And from Jan. 2 to Feb. 9 in 2021 there have been seven homicides.
The year 2020 didn’t start well or end well for Greensboro in the homicide category. The year started with three homicides on the first day, and by Dec. 31, 2020, Greensboro had set a new record for homicides with a total of 61 during the year. The previous record was 45, which was set in 2019. In 2018, there were 38 homicides in Greensboro.
On July 7, 2020, after Greensboro had experienced seven murders in seven days, Police Chief Brian James held a press conference where he said, “I stand before you today asking for the community’s help in reducing and solving these senseless acts of violence.”
At that press conference, James also noted that at that time Greensboro had had 29 homicides in 2020 and was on course to set a record nobody wanted to set for the most homicides in a year.
Then the second half of the year was worse than the first with a total of 32 homicides.
James also held a press conference on Nov. 30, 2020 to talk about the 56 homicides that had occurred up to that point in 2020. He said they were looking at the resources the Police Department had and asking the question, “Do we actually have enough police resources for a city this size?”
A study to determine the answer to that question is supposed to be underway.
A study, . . . . .really?
Pretty sad that the murder rate for 2021 is already worse than record setting 2020’s murder rate.
Yet more evidence that this year is somehow worse than last year.
Where is councilwoman Johnson’s “ Cure for Violence “? Can we stop all homicides? No, but with more police and more gang units the city could reduce the murder rate. City “anti- police” council shall demand to take the money back from the useless “Cure for Violence “, put more police on the street, let the chief do his job and stop worrying about being politically correct- do what is needed to save our citizens lives.
Yes the police chief is requesting citizens assistance when he should be demanding more police for his department. Truly support the sheriff department taking control as the sheriff does not answer to or bend over for the city council.
When is councilwoman Johnson, Mayor and city council going to report how are tax dollars are being used for “ Cure for Violence”?
This is abosuletly a sign of the times. Police don’t want to crack down on crime, even though they know where it is. They took worried about blowblack from the community they are tryinqg to protect. Greensboro is a great city… We deserve more. Until they used the data they have and the resources they deserve this will be the trend.
Of course violent crime is exploding. Violent criminals are feeling emboldened, as society lionizes career criminals like George Floyd, and other thugs, including the Antifa and BLM Brownshirts who riot, loot, and arson with impunity. So those people who naturally harbor criminal tendencies now feel they have carte blanche to indulge their proclivities. Who dare stand up to them? Who dare to be traduced as a racist?
Let’s not allow the internet EMBOLDEN us to communicate our short-sightedness and ignorance. The vast majority of our lone, gunman assassins (as the two that have occurred within just last week) have been white males. In these recent shootings, these men have killed eight people in Atlanta and ten in Boulder. Let us not forget the bombing in Tennessee not too long ago either (also a white male). My point is simple: For every short-sighted, ignorant claim about BLM being criminals, just as many (if not more) predominantly white groups can be accused of the same. The difference is the latter group carries out their action under the guise of “patriotism” and/or “protecting democracy” as they did on January 6th. Yet, I don’t see anyone calling for more police in those communities.
Isn’t about time for Ms. Johnson to START SPENDING SOME OF THAT MONEY SHE GOT for crime prevention? What is she waiting for?
Cure The Violence is really making a difference! Maybe we can throw another half million at it, give the thugs more money and hope it works out? Someone once said the beatings will continue until morale improves. This will not improve until the communities take over and improve it. If you choose to sit idly by, beat of luck to you, just make sure your life insurance is paid up and you neighbor is willing to feed Rover.
Time to talk to Yvonne Johnson about the city’s $900,000 investment. What a crock of horse pucky
“Do we actually have enough police resources for a city this size?”
Yes is the answer, but the department is governed by the City Council and they make it very difficult for officers to do their job. Some of them probably want to replace some of them with social workers. . . . .just what the criminal community wants as well, but for a different reason.
The people in the communities where most of the murders are taking place know who is responsible, but there is the element of “don’t snitch” that pervades the entire community. The public at large can’t understand why people are not turning in others, even if it their own family members. As long as people practice the three monkeys wisdom, there will be more and more violence.
See no evil , hear no evil, speak no evil. It’s time the leaders, and general citizens in these communities to take a stand and get rid of the violence once and for all, even if that means turning in your own family members. You want crime to stop? Step up and do the right thing.
