Beginning on Sept. 17, the GreenHill Gallery and Shop in downtown Greensboro will be open for business on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m. each day.

The exhibit – NC Women Abstract Painters, which features the work of Eleanor Annand, Barbara Ellis, Celia Johnson, Katy Mixon and Felicia van Bork – will run until November 6.

Of course, there are a slew of new rules for observing the artwork in the place. For instance, to ensure that the galleries allow enough space for social distancing, the maximum capacity is now 25 – and no more than four people can browse in the shop at any one time.

Following guidance from state and federal authorities, GreenHill has adopted new safety protocols for its reopening next week. These will be in effect until further notice. The new procedures are along the lines of what people can expect to see for many businesses that are now opening up in the era of COVID-19.

Here are some of the gallery’s new guidelines:

  • No one can enter the gallery if they have symptoms of infection or have been recently diagnosed with the coronavirus.
  • Face masks must be worn by staff and visitors at all times. (The requirement doesn’t, however, apply to children under the age of two.)
  • A minimum of six feet of social distance must be maintained at all times, especially at check-in. (Plexiglas partitions are installed at all “transactional areas.”)
  • Visitors entering the gallery will flow in one direction. Entry to GreenHill is now through the gallery, and exit is through the shop doors.

The gallery is also using advanced cleaning and disinfection procedures for all “high-touch” surfaces such as entrance doors. In addition, hand sanitizer stations will be available and frequent hand-washing will be strongly encouraged.

The gallery is willing to have groups visit during other hours than its regular hours if a group makes an appointment.
