The coronavirus pandemic has forced millions of Americans to make incredibly difficult sacrifices in order to protect the vulnerable and avoid overwhelming our hospitals. In Seattle, a woman with cervical cancer has had her surgery postponed indefinitely. In Denver, a man who’s waited more than a year to have a massive hernia repaired faces a similar delay. Here in North Carolina, hundreds of surgeries and other “nonessential” medical procedures have been postponed, causing anxious patients to call in to try to find out if they are still on the list.
And yet, some procedures are clearly more equal than others in the eyes of pro-abortion advocates. As hospitals have canceled or postponed countless procedures designed to extend and save lives, Democrats raised no objection. But when anyone suggests canceling a procedure to end the life of a defenseless human being, the outcry is deafening. Unlike procedures designed to preserve health and save lives, abortion doesn’t treat any disease – it is purposefully designed to terminate the life of another, often physically or psychologically wounding the mother in the process.
The abortion industry, led by Planned Parenthood and their Democratic allies, insist that abortion is “essential” and must continue at all costs. In at least one state, it is the only “service” that businesses are still offering on the premises while the pandemic is ongoing. In other states where governors have made it clear abortion is not exempt, the abortion lobby is going to court to demand a special exception to the rules everyone else is expected to follow.
This is yet another example of how radical the pro-abortion movement has become. Not so long ago, advocates of abortion still described it as a woman’s choice. Now they say it is “essential” medical care. It can’t be both. Indeed, how can it be essential when more than 85 percent of practicing ob/gyns do not perform elective abortions?
The same double standards are apparent in the targeting of pro-life sidewalk counselors by law enforcement. Earlier this month, several people working for a federally recognized charity were arrested outside a Charlotte abortion center. Even while observing social distancing and hygiene rules, they were trying to intervene to help women in need and urge them not to end the life of their child when police arrived and ordered them to leave. Meanwhile the abortion facility’s waiting room was filled, but that didn’t matter – only the pro-life counselors were arrested. When asked why they couldn’t shut down the abortion center for violating the governor’s stay at home order, unbelievably, one of the officers said, “I don’t have the authority.”
Abortion businesses that continue to operate are putting everyone at risk – women, employees, emergency responders who are left picking up the pieces when women suffer injuries and complications from abortions, and the general public. Worse yet, Planned Parenthood even solicited donations for desperately needed personal protective equipment that ought to be reserved for doctors and nurses on the front lines. Gowns, masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, and more should help protect nurses from the Coronavirus, not aid in abortion procedures.
This has to stop. If the abortion industry would voluntarily put health and safety before profits, we would all be better off – but they have proven unwilling. That’s why we stand with medical associations representing over 30,000 physicians who are calling for elective abortions to be suspended during this crisis, and why local leaders must stop turning a blind eye to the dire consequences of continuing abortion procedures during this pandemic.
North Carolinians value life and we love our neighbors. It’s a hardship to be forced to stay indoors and refrain from going to work, school, church, or the doctor for medical treatment. Our leaders are trying to balance public health and liberty. But, Democrat politicians should stop hypocritically pandering to the abortion industry and increasing the risk to the health and well-being of the unborn, mothers in need, and society at large.
Ted Budd is a Member of Congress representing North Carolina’s 13th Congressional District. This was co-written by Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List.
In the beginning a man was created in God’s own image. And then HE created a women who tried to poison the first man because she was not satisfied with her own body even after she was advised not too. She made the decision on her own without anyone else helping her decide to bring this evil to our universe. This evil to kill resides in women’s mind even today. Her decision to harm the first man is the root of all evil proving that men are the top level of all mankind. Women have no regards for life. Life begins at conception and ends when our conscious leaves out body. No one on this planet has the right to end another ones life.
And without women their would be NO life. You sir are a neanderthal and until you can conceive and carry a baby you have NO right to an opinion on this subject.
Lot’s of people use dogma to prove their opinion, both sexes, all races, etc. You are absolutely right.
I’m a women ……….I agree !!!!
I question your ability to make a constructive argument and I also question the moderator of the site for letting such garbage into the conversation.
Well, yes and no. All “garbage” is welcome in any conversation, especially that which you may disagree. After all, someone may not like your opinion. It’s like blaming the phone company for a robocall, or the internet for spam. 1st Amendment
@Martin: That is the most closed minded, indoctrinated dribble I may have ever read. I hope you’re just a troll and don’t actually believe this. You sound like a true fundamentalist. No actual real life knowledge; other than what your pastor told you what passages in the bible mean to them. You have the self awareness of a grain of sand. You’re brainwashed and don’t even know it. Sad really. I know you can’t change someone’s mind by insulting them, however, you are completely mindless and there is no hope in saving you. Religion should have no quarter in government. If you want to live like a zealot then go to Saudi Arabia where they rape and murder women in the streets because a breeze blew by and their dresses came up high enough to expose their ankle. Sounds like your little slice of heaven, you bigot
Thank you!
You can’t be serious.
Thank you Ted!!!
The death rate for healthy people catching the coronavirus has now been reduced to around 0.1 percent. That is one in one thousand. What is the death rate for a child whose mother has decided to have an abortion? It is 100 percent. The most recent data from the CDC indicates that in 2016, more than 600,000 abortions were performed in the United States. In fact, abortion is the number one cause of deaths worldwide. How can a society decide to ruin its economy by being so grossly afraid of a pandemic pushed by the media where our places of employment are closed, and yet abortion clinics continue to operate. If 600,000 abortions were performed in 2016, that equates to 1,643 deaths PER DAY. How does that compare to the coronavirus? As of today, 48,000 in the US. If we say that the virus has been in the US since the first of February, then the death rate equates to 578 deaths per day or less than one third of the daily deaths by abortion. Why do we not hear of these statistics? If a mother has the right to kill her baby, then don’t tell me I do not have the right to go to work to support my family! This is a great example of the left wing democratic party and how they do not believe in the sanctity of life and are more than happy to see our great country be destroyed.
That’s assuming you have such a black and white view of conception. But as others have said, I don’t have the ability to carry a child so abortion isn’t something I can ever fully understand.
There isn’t a lot to understand. A woman doesn’t want the child she conceived so she pays to have it killed.
When you are able to conceive and carry a child, then you may weigh in. Until then, you have NO argument. Go ahead and work. Walmart, grocery stores, Amazon, and thousands of essential business are hiring. Go forth and work and quit belly aching.
Soken like a man with no medical knowledge
You have that right!
Ms. Smith: One, I can certainly obtain data from the CDC, which is what I did to get these statistics and two, at least I can spell. By the way, just what is your medical knowledge?
Sir, how about become computer literate. She wasn’t commenting on your post, but on the article. Geeze
There is no solution to this problem. The parties line near or far from the center line of agreement, whatever gets them more votes. If a woman wants an abortion, it is her business, not mine. And don’t ask me when it is not moral, I am not the judge of that, and no one else is either. My point is just that I am not willing to be forced to pay for it by taxation, or any other means. I am a fiscal conservative, and a social liberal. Something like a Libertarian.
Ted Budd. a NC Congressman. Your job is to represent the voice of your district Not impose your views and beliefs on those you represent. If you can not do your job, get out. If you continue the way you are going, do not worry about quiting, we will put you out of office
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!
It sounds to me as if Ted Budd IS representing his constituents. A large chunk of us in North Carolina DON’T approve of killing babies in the womb, and we certainly don’t appreciate it being called essential. He isn’t trying to force his beliefs on anyone, as you are free to believe whatever you choose, even if or when it defies reason.
Sir, when you are able to carry a baby then you may weigh in. Until then, stay OUT of my healthcare choices.
Abortion is NOT health care. It is the killing of a child. I don’t for one minute think you are so stupid that you don’t know the difference.
@Mr Hinson, yes it is healthcare. You sir, have NO idea why the procedure maybe being performed. It is law not an opinion.
“We didn’t have the authority. We were just following orders.” Favorite statement at the Nuremberg Trials.
Well…it is a rather time sensitive procedure that has lifelong ramifications for two or more people.
Boy howdy, what a stupid post from Ted Budd at this time. He apparently doesn’t know that right now in CA there are protest photos of conservatives with signs saying, “My Choice, My Body, My Rights” that are being shared by liberals with comments that basically say they are glad Republicans finally get it!
As a conservative Christian female, I too believe that issues about abortion stop at the thought of “My Choice, My Body, My Rights”. Republicans should too since they generally say they think the government should stay out of our personal lives and decisions as much as possible. It’s insane to me that conservative Christians have been so rabid about forcing their views on others. “Choice” is just that, an individual’s (or couple’s) choice to make a decision as to whether or not to have a baby. Minds can be changed by calm and reasonable discussion but it seems that neither side is willing to do that. People who DON’T want an abortion have the choice to decide that, so too should those who choose abortion for whatever reason.
Unlike most Christians, I do not believe that life begins at conception. Life begins when God breathes the breath of life into the body of the fetus at birth, as evidenced by the creation of Adam and Eve. He does the same for every individual, just as our last breath out becomes our death. People who use other verses to justify this are wrong because two human souls cannot reside in one body, the woman’s. It’s just that simple. (Quickening that was mentioned in the Gospels means the fetus has automatic movement in response to the mother’s excitement.)
Having an abortion is essential because there is now a narrow time limit on the legality of having one performed. The original Supreme Court limits have been changed by increasing pressures by people who are frankly busy-bodies. Regardless, there is a time limit and with no knowledge of when this virus will be over it, therefore, becomes an “essential service”.
This is one of the issues that led me to leave the GOP as more and more they become the Democrats of the 1960s and 70s (don’t forget Trump was a Democrat at the beginning and his views align well with them back in that time). The GOP needs to stay out of the business of its citizens and stick to Constitutional Law. Now it seems they want to control our lives as much as the Dems do only on the other end of the scale.
Issues like this are why more and more Republicans are losing elections in this country, which is a shame because they are our best hope for survival.
Very nice response!
But it’s okay to force your choice on the person in your womb? How about giving the child some choice?
Even a animal waits till her offspring is born and only then will she desire to let a newborn die if the newborn isn’t thriving . Why don’t we give our offspring that much of a chance ?
Pregnancy is NEVER an accident, but rather, it’s the logical, predictable, normal result of certain activities in which people engage, for the most part willingly. A bad choice is not a good solution for a bad choice. Abortion is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
Temporary PROBLEM??? How can the life of a live baby be a temporary problem? It surely isn’t a “temporary” problem to the person that takes responsibility of that “problem”. And I disagree, pregnancy can be an accident, failure of contraception methods is an accident.
the mother having the abortion sees it as a problem, the thousands of women waiting to adopt don’t see it as a wonderful gift. There’s no reason to kill and innocent life and prevent a potential mother from adopting due to an “accident.”
Ok, Ted. Let’s say your teenage daughter, or your wife, is raped by one of those dangerous, drug-addicted immigrants that your party fears so much. Then what?
The point is…you don’t have a right to make choices about other people’s lives.
@David, Thank you!
Killing an innocent life isn’t going to erase the violence you experienced. Violence doesn’t solve violence.
My 18 yr old nephew was conceived through rape. He’s an awesome kid, wouldn’t trade him for anything.
I Am an American
I am an American just like you,
You can call me baby blue.
Never allowed to carry the weight,
My life stolen in the starting gate.
The right to life the big lie,
All I ever did was die.
God is real, see the sigh,
Look closely at the tear in His eye.
Stop the abortion holocaust,
Before another child is lost.
End the current American civil war,
Americans killing Americans like never before.
Carolina Tears
Tiny coffins in a row,
Carolina to Sacramento.
From East to West,
We may have killed America’s best.
God rides the wings of prayer,
A tear in His eye, we know He cares.
Indifference is the evil that we see,
We can never, ever let it be.
A firestorm in our heart,
America needs a brand new start.
Continue to fill us with holy discontent,
We stand for life, never relent.
Far from the end of the story,
To You alone be the glory.
I think you have misdirected your comments about women. The real problem is Satan who twisted what God told Adam and Eve. She believed Satan and that is why we have sin in this world. Satan also continues to try and divide people. Again, the mastermind is Satan. God did make a way for us to be reconciled to Him, through the blood sacrifice of our Lord Jesus. Our answers are in Christ. Abortion is wrong because God is the life giver and lifer taker. Pray for our country to turn to Christ.
