The City of Greensboro is planning to issue a stay at home order at a press conference at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 25. When that order will go into effect has not yet been announced.
Charlotte issued a stay at home order on Tuesday, March 24. Durham issued one on Wednesday, March 25 and Wake County is expected to follow later in the day.
Those orders have come after health officials have said that they are necessary when “community spread” has been identified, which means someone has tested positive for COVID-19 without visiting a place or person connected to the virus already.
Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan said, “There is community spread in Greensboro and, in speaking with [Chief Executive Officer] Terry Akin at Moses Cone Hospital and what the trajectory looks like for the healthcare community, it is a step we felt we had to take.”
She added, “Based on conversations with Terry Akin, his epidemiologist and others, the City Council has decided to do what is in the best interest of the community and the healthcare system, and I believe that Guilford County is looking at those numbers, as is the city of High Point.”
Vaughan said, “Things are moving fast and there is no playbook for this.” She said that the healthcare professionals had made a very convincing argument that it was time to issue a stay-at-home order.
The specifics of that order are being worked out, but in other communities in the state the residents have been ordered to stay at home except to go to the grocery store, pharmacy, doctors appointments and other essential activities.
The complete list of essential businesses that will not be closed by the stay at home order is expected to be extensive and cover a broad range of businesses. In other communities, businesses such as grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, banks, media organizations, funeral homes and child care centers are a few of the ones that were not affected by the ordinance.
The details of what the stay at home order in Greensboro will include will be made public at a 4 p.m. press conference.

Be sure and fall in line with all the other idiots. The number of cases in Guilford County is miniscule. I for one will ignore this order. I go from my house to my office where I am the only one working there. I have not had any contact with anyone except my wife for over 10 days.

Lets face it the city council does not want police to stop people for real criminal issues I am sure they want allow police to stop anyone for this health concern. The Sherriff does not want people arrested and taken to jail so this is all a mood point.

Mr Hammer, where or how did you hear this information? If it’s a person “familiar with the situation”, that’s fine, but a little more clarity would be beneficial. Did you speak with Nancy Vaughan yourself? If so, did she directly and concretely state that a stay at home order would be announced, or was it just something they are discussing at this time?
How is a non-essential company in the area that is still open with well over 100 employees reported? Workers are from the Greensboro, Kernersville and surrounding area. I’m sure there are probably other companies as well.

What about dental offices that are at one of the highest risk ???? No mandate for closure for them?
According to state board, dentists are considered essential services. We are still open at my office for emergency services. state board did not want us to close and thus send more people to an overworked ER
So that doesn’t mean everyone go to grocery store everyday rediculous how many people come in everyday just asking for it all the stores are empty everyone hoarding stay home
Good Question. Many offices, including mine, are following these guidelines issued by the ADA. But it won’t work unless we all do it. “In order for dentistry to do its part to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the ADA recommends dentists nationwide postpone elective procedures for the next three weeks. Concentrating on emergency dental care will allow us to care for our emergency patients and alleviate the burden that dental emergencies would place on hospital emergency departments.”

We need to remove the sweepstake machines out of the gas stations because they are unsanitary. Who do I need to contact?
The sweepstakes machines are a legal thing and being in a gas station they should be cleaned down just as everything in the store, as a gas station worker, I not only wipe down the machine with bleach but also Lysol everything on and around it after any players so if something isn’t sanitary, it’s on the store manager or supervisor you need to talk too

There are no official Greensboro city or NC State websites reporting this information. No official announcements have been made. Irresponsible reporting that will confuse and panic citizens of Greensboro.

Actually, at 2:00 PM, the mortality rate in the US was 1.5%. Figures don’t lie, but liars can figure. The real concern is the number of dead, not the percentage rate. The flu is the clear winner. In 2019, 38,800 people died in auto accidents. Over 4 million more needed medical attention as a result of auto accidents. Why do we let people drive??

I don’t really see the point of these “stay at home” orders. All the essential stores and services that are currently operating under the state of emergency & social distancing guidelines will remain open. The public activities allowed / recommended under those same guidelines will still be allowed as well. This seems to be nothing more than a pointless symbolic order that will honestly cause more panic buying and behavior we don’t want from people who don’t read / understand it’s true meaning.
Maybe so people will stay home and do their due diligence and learn about the virus. Also learn what exponential growth is and what it does to the health care industry. Learn about the severe shortage of medical supplies and how companies like Ford and Chevrolet are converting factories to make ventilators.Does any of this sound remotely like we might be in an emergency situation? I have first hand knowledge from a family member that works in a Greensboro hospital they have been pushing the panic button for over a week now. Employees are told if you talk to the press or social media you will be fired.

Common sense is not that common anymore
In fairness to all, how about we take a vote to reduce our city/county property taxes for every “stay at home day”. For example, for 30 “stay at home days” the taxpayer gets a 8.33% discount on our annual property taxes (30/360 = 8.33%).
The city is just trying to protect us. THIS VIRUS ISN’T A JOKE, IT KILLS PEOPLE. The city is trying to prevent it from becoming worse, and spreading any further. Everybody needs to remember to keep their hands sanitized, and also to keep your hands away from your face, because the virus enters your body through the nose, mouth, and eyes. Stay safe everone.
As a person who almost lost his life to a lung related ailment all as I can say is that when you can`t breathe, NOTHING ELSE MATTERS! Please take this seriously people.
I’m really disappointed the County Commissioners were so quick to trash citizens’ rights without any significant impact from the virus, only fear and unfounded projections. I expected more.
